On a sunny Saturday at the end of January a few hundred educators traveled to HTH in Pt. Loma to participate in Design Camp! I attended last year's event when it was hosted at VIDA and this year's day was even more high energy and full of connections with incredible educators. It is teachers who see themselves as learners who are dedicated to being the front line of change in public education. Design Camp is centered around the strategy of "Design Thinking" as a foundation for teaching kids to think and make real world connections. I was part of a group that worked with a non-profit called Compassion It to help them figure out how to scale up their company. It was fantastic to have a real "user" that we interviewed, empathized with and then proposed solutions to them. Check out the work that Compassion It is doing to spread compassion, kindness and mindfulness to schools, prisons, and corporate workplace settings. I hope to work with them in the near future on a project in my classroom.
